Dr. Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes was born and raised in the holy town of Lalibela. He is a writer, a published poet, a senior lecturer and researcher. He is currently doing his work at the Centre for Human Rights Education, Curtin University, Australia.
Dr. Yirga’s research focuses on the critical study of development, education and law, and the importance of lived experience and epistemic diversity for decolonial and sustainable futures. He has written a book along this topic called Native Colonialism: Education and the Economy of Violence Against Tradition in Ethiopia. He also has an organization called ሀበማ - ሀገር በቀል ትምህርትና ዕውቀቶች ማዕከል or Society for Indigenous Education.
